Power comes from the EcoTec3 6.2 liter V8 with an aluminum block and heads.  It features Direct Fuel Inject with Active Fuel Management for better fuel efficiency and Continuously Variable Valve timing for great low-end torque.  The engine is matched to a smooth shifting 6-speed Hydra-Matic 6L80 automatic transmission.  A two-speed electronic transfer case makes is easy to go from 2WD, Auto 4WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low.  The transmission also features auto grade braking which downshifts the transmission on downgrades to reduce brake wear.  New larger rear axles have the strength to accommodate the engine’s high output, a standard locking rear differential has a 3.42 ratio, and the truck comes with a standard trailering package with frame-mounted trailer hitch and seven-pin and four-pin connectors.  Trailer sway control is also standard and works with the standard StabiliTrak traction system to provide an added measure of confidence when towing a trailer.  A fully  boxed frame with main rails and major cross members formed from high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel provides a rigid base for maximum hauling capability, as well as greater noise and vibration isolation-contributing to the Silverado High Country’s balance of segment-best capability and industry-leading refinement.

The new stiffer chassis enables more precise tuning of the front and rear suspension geometry giving the High Country a more responsive feel with a smoother ride on or off-road with less vibration and shake, particularly on harsh terrain.  Up front is an independent setup with coil-over gas-charged, twin-tube shocks and stabilizer bar.  The rear is a solid axle setup with semi-elliptic, variable- rate, 2-step multi-leaf springs, and splayed, twin-tube gas-charged shocks.  The new electric power-assisted rack & pinion steering helps save fuel and enables a more consistent, crisp steering feel and plenty of assist for parking maneuvers.  The High Country remains very stable on the highway at speed and also remains flat when cornering.  Steering response is further enhanced with two braces on the sides of the engine bay adding rigidity.

Quickly and safely slowing the all-new High Country down from speed are big, 4-wheel steel disc brakes.  Up front are 13.6 inch vented discs clamped with large dual-piston calipers, while 13 inch rear vented discs are clamped with large, single-piston calipers.  Duralife rotors, which feature a hardened and strengthened surface reduces corrosion helping them last up to twice as long as conventional rotors and providing quieter braking with less vibration.  Standard ABS and StabiliTrak work together to keep me on my chosen path when braking hard on wet, slick or loose gravel.
